Al Roker returns to 'Today' show following a complicated knee surgery and a challenging recovery process, supported by his family and encouraged by dedicated fans.

Al Roker returned to the 'Today' show on Tuesday, marking his first appearance since undergoing a complex knee surgery on May 9. 'Look who's here!' exclaimed co-anchor Savannah Guthrie as she introduced Roker back to viewers, noting his 'brand new knee'.

Jokingly referring to his knee as a 'new wheel', Roker confirmed he was making good use of it. When asked if it still had the 'new knee smell', Roker replied with humor, assuring everyone things were 'all good'.

Previously, on May 15, Roker called into 'Today' to update fans about his surgery, revealing he had several months of physical rehabilitation ahead. The 68-year-old elaborated on the complexity of his operation, as it involved a revision of a previous knee replacement.

In a May 21 Instagram Live video, Roker's wife, ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts, discussed her husband's surgery and thanked fans for their concern and interest in his well-being. His new knee replaced one that had been fitted years earlier and encountered recent issues, making this procedure more challenging and recovery slower.

Roberts praised Roker's progress and resilience, expressing gratitude towards their compassionate fan base for the support and kindness they had shown the family during these trying times.
