Canada's National Tower, more commonly referred to as the 'CN Tower', stands tall and proud at an awe-inspiring elevation of 1,815 feet, approximately 553.33 meters. This towering beacon is a distinctive landmark situated in the Toronto's vibrant entertainment district on Front Street.
Boasting the crown of the highest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere, the CN Tower proves to be a magnet, attracting over two million footfalls annually.
Adjacent to this mighty structure, lies the Rogers Centre, known by baseball enthusiasts as the home of the Toronto Blue Jays. The CN Tower enchants visitors with its various sections such as the highest observation deck, the awe-striking SkyPod, positioned at a hovering height of 1,465 feet or 447 meters.
The Glass Floor, another marvel, dangles at 1,122 feet or 342 meters above the ground, promising a heart-racing experience for visitors. The CN Tower also houses a sturdy antenna, stretching 335 feet or 102 metres, that serves a critical function in the transmission of radio, television, and cellular signals.
The 360 Restaurant, a rotating eatery within the CN Tower, superbly meshes breathtaking views with a culinary journey. Visitors are also informed that, as a part of stringent security measures, every bag is subject to inspection and passage through metal detectors is mandatory. The tower is recognized as a BOMA BEST Certified Gold Building.
The iconic CN Tower was brought to life by the Canadian National Railways, breaking ground on February 6, 1973, with the primary purpose of addressing the issue of substandard television signals in the region. Following an unhurried construction period of 40 months, the tower, weighing an estimated 130,000 tons and costing a hefty $63 million Canadian dollars, was complete.
Opened to the public on June 26, 1976, grand opening ceremonies were held on October 1, 1976. Another feature, the Glass Floor, was introduced on June 26, 1994. In 1995, this architecture marvel was declared as one of the modern Seven Wonders by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
An adrenaline-inducing feature called the EdgeWalk was inaugurated on August 1, 2011, allowing visitors to walk on a circular outdoor ledge with the assurance of an overhead safety rail while positioned 1,168 feet (356m) above the ground. This feature was made accessible to wheelchair-bound visitors by August 2015.
In June 2017, yet another addition, the LookOut Level, was unveiled, showcasing floor-to-ceiling window walls and a glass floor at a towering height of 1,136 feet (346 meters). June 2018 saw this platform being revamped for better accessibility and a newly introduced eatery known as the Bistro.
