Utah author Kouri Richins, accused of poisoning husband Eric over a contentious $2 million property, faced charges of murder and drug possession while promoting her grief-focused children's book.

Kouri Richins, a Utah author who penned a children's book about coping with grief, allegedly poisoned her husband, Eric Richins, amidst arguments over purchasing a $2 million mansion. Court documents indicate discord between the couple in relation to acquiring the 22,000-square-foot property in Heber City. Eric even modified his will the year prior to his demise, fearing that Kouri might take his life for money.

On March 3, 2022, Kouri is accused of giving Eric a fentanyl-laced Moscow Mule. Later that night, she discovered him unresponsive and cold, subsequently calling 911. As a licensed real estate agent, Kouri claimed they were celebrating a recent business deal. She closed on the disputed property two days later and threw a party for her friends.

The mansion was shortly put back on the market, eventually going under contract for $3.75 million. Eric's will showed that he had transferred the power of attorney from Kouri to his sister, having confided to her his concerns regarding Kouri's possible lethal intentions.

Kouri Richins was charged with first-degree aggravated murder and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. The prosecutors referenced the medical examiner's report, which cited fentanyl overdose as the cause of death.

Notably, Kouri wrote a book titled 'Are You With Me?' to assist her children in dealing with their father's loss. Before her arrest, she made appearances on television promoting her book.
