On a recent Thursday morning, widespread alarm was triggered as multiple trash cans ablaze were discovered outside the Beaux-arts structure that houses the main Manhattan branch of the New York Public Library. Authorities had promptly reacted to the unfortunate event, swiftly necessitating an evacuation of the premises. In a subsequent development, the NYPD along with their Bomb Squad were ushered to the scene, to assess a suspicious contraption that tentatively held explosive potential. In a parallel incident, specialized officers from NYPD ESU were seen conducting a detailed examination of a questionable package that was sighted outside the library, specifically on Fifth Avenue. This cascade of events found its inception at around 9:40 am, with fires being ignited across 5th Avenue, spanning the stretch between the 40th and 42nd streets. Impressively, this historic landmark of a library, known popularly for the two emblematic marble lions – Patience and Fortitude – that stand guard outside, endured the series of events without sustaining any damages. The aforementioned package was again subjected to police examination on July 6th. As confirmed by spokesperson of the library, the building was cleared out as an act of precaution, as advised by the police. The concerning incident, fortunately, did not result in any injuries.
