7.5 million Baby Shark bath toys recalled after reports of injuries to children, with some requiring medical intervention; consumers urged to seek refunds.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of 7.5 million Baby Shark bath toys. Reports of injured children led to this decision. Zuru LLC, a California-based importer, manages the distribution of these China-manufactured toys.

The recall comprises 6.5 million full-size Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing Swim Bath Toys and 1 million mini-size Robo Alive Junior Mini Baby Shark Swimming Bath Toys.

Zuru disclosed 12 reports of children enduring impalement injuries, lacerations, and puncture wounds due to falling or sitting on the full-size Baby Shark bath product. These injuries targeted the children's genital, anorectal, and facial areas. Consequently, nine victims needed medical attention.

However, no reported injuries involved the recalled Mini Baby Shark bath toys. The commission highlights the danger posed by the hard plastic top fin of the shark, particularly when used in bathtubs or wading pools.

The CPSC urges consumers to cease using these toys and contact Zuru for a full refund. Various retailers, including Target, Walgreens, Ross, and Walmart, sold the affected products. Full-size toys were available from May 2019 to March 2023, while the miniature version was sold between July 2020 and June 2023.
