‘General Hospital’ and ‘Kelly Clarkson’ nominated for multiple 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards, new show ‘Sherri’ also recognized

On Wednesday, the official nominations for the 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards were announced, with "General Hospital" earning the most recognition with 19 nominations. The 60-year-old soap opera will compete in writing, directing, and all the acting categories for Daytime Drama Series. CBS's soap operas "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Young and the Restless" also received nods, landing 14 and 13 nominations, respectively. NBC/Peacock's long-running series "Days of Our Lives" was recognized with 11 nominations for the golden anniversary ceremony.
In the talk show categories, Kelly Clarkson's eponymous series gathered 11 nominations, proving its competitiveness among the nominees. Other talk show hosts being nominated included Drew Barrymore, Tamron Hall, Kelly Ripa, and Sherri Shepherd. The last of which won an Emmy for co-hosting "The View" and became a top-rated solo act with her show "Sherri!" which got nominations for hairstyling, makeup, costume design/styling, and its signature promotional announcement, "Sherri: Fun. Joy. Laughter."
At the time of nomination, Sherri expressed her excitement about the nominations, explaining that she started the show to inspire viewers with joy, laughter, and inspiration. According to the comedian and actress, being acknowledged by peers for bringing this "good time" culture to daytime feels like the perfect icing to an already good cake.
Notable nominations in other categories include "Down to Earth with Zac Efron" by Netflix for Travel, Adventure and Nature Program, and Danielle Brooks, a Tony and Emmy nominee, who earned a nod for Daytime Program Host of Netflix's "Instant Dream Home." Meanwhile, Roku's "Martha Cooks" and HBO Max's "Selena + Chef" received nominations for Culinary Series, while Kardea Brown, Ina Garten, Guy Fieri, Emeril Lagasse, Justin Sutherland, and Andrew Zimmern receive nominations for Culinary Host. The Daytime Special category includes the 96th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and "Extra: Cheslie Kryst 1991-2022" about the Miss USA winner and an "Extra" correspondent who committed suicide by jumping from a Midtown Manhattan high-rise last year.
The 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will air on CBS and stream live on Paramount+ at 9 p.m. ET/PT on June 16.
