Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas has become eligible for a contract extension after completing three NFL seasons. Following his second-team All-Pro award last season, the Giants have picked up Thomas' fifth-year option, ensuring his place in the team's long-term plans. This move secures his contract through the 2024 season, with a salary of $10.2 million this year and $14.1 million next year.
Although a long-term extension may be considered in the coming offseason, Thomas remains unfazed, focusing on self-improvement and leadership. He stated, "Regardless of whether I get a deal or not, I'm always trying to get better, each and every day.”
For the first time in three years, Thomas is not dealing with an offseason ankle surgery, indicating a promising outlook for his 2022 performance. Additionally, it may benefit the Giants to secure Thomas long-term sooner rather than later from a financial standpoint.
However, the team has other pressing matters at hand, such as defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence's long-term extension and the negotiations that follow. How the Giants handle Lawrence’s payment will likely determine the arrangement of the other pieces.
The Giants undoubtedly appreciate Thomas' 2022 performance, which played a significant role in the team's return to the playoffs and Daniel Jones' contract extension. Thomas also takes pride in his progress but maintains focus on further improvement, aiming to become one of the top players in the league.
