Gang Green is poised to bring in another of Aaron Rodgers' former teammates. Veteran wide receiver, Randall Cobb, is set to sign a one-year contract with the Jets, as reported by ESPN. Though not yet finalized, the deal is anticipated to be completed soon. Cobb's signing would make him the fourth ex-Packers player to join the Jets this offseason, alongside wide receiver Allen Lazard, quarterback Tim Boyle, and tackle Billy Turner. Additionally, the team welcomed offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who served in the same role for the Packers from 2019 to 2021.
Cobb's addition is not unexpected, as the Jets were in search of another wide receiver. Furthermore, Cobb has a close relationship with Rodgers. In fact, the star quarterback recommended Cobb to the Jets during a meeting in California before being traded last week. Another name on Rodgers' list was Odell Beckham Jr., though he ultimately signed with the Ravens.
The expected arrival of Cobb will bolster the Jets' receiving corps, which includes Lazard, Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis, Denzel Mims, and Mecole Hardman. Though Cobb, 32, has not had more than 40 receptions in a season since 2019, his familiarity with both Rodgers and Hackett is valuable for the Jets' offense. Cobb will likely be used as a slot receiver alongside Hardman.
Throughout his 12-year career, Cobb has accumulated 625 receptions for 7,585 yards and 53 touchdowns. Last season with the Packers, he caught 34 passes for 417 yards and one touchdown across 13 games. Ranking fifth in Packers history, Cobb has garnered 532 receptions and 47 touchdowns. After spending ten seasons with the team, he briefly played for the Cowboys (2019) and Texans (2020) before rejoining the Packers in the 2021-22 seasons.
