In a stroke of misfortune, Max Scherzer's scheduled start against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday has been canceled due to neck spasms. In his stead, David Peterson has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and will take the reins for the Amazin's in Cincinnati.

Scherzer has experienced a difficult season, boasting a 5.56 ERA in five starts this year. The right-handed pitcher's career with the Mets has not been without its share of setbacks, as evidenced by a month and a half-long hiatus last season from May to July, caused by an oblique injury.
